Coffee Table as an Entertainment Center

A modern coffee table can double as an entertainment center for the budget-minded enthusiast. Improvised furniture solutions like this have long been a staple of the college student and twenty something, but with the harsh realities of the economic times setting in, many more people will begin to look for alternate ways to utilize their coffee table (among other furniture items). For the most part, it isn’t a good idea to rest a heavy television set on a coffee table, but consider the table a great place to showcase a computer. Wireless internet and laptops have made it possible to turn your coffee table into a home theater.

Consider first what you wish to do entertainment-wise. If you already own a laptop (or any kind of computer for that matter), you have many options available to you. Set the coffee table a few feet away from a couch, place the computer on top, and enjoy the sights and sounds. This works exceptionally well for music, as a graphic visualizer gives you something to look at while listening to your music. Movies work similarly, as you can watch a DVD on nearly any laptop. The proximity of the coffee table to the couch is an added benefit, as you will be able to see all of the details on the computer screen.

There are many other entertainment items that can be placed on a coffee table. A stereo or game system are both light enough to rest on the coffee table without risk of breaking it. Consider low-tech options as well, such as board games or cards. There is really no limit to the number of activities that can be
