Modern Platform Beds

November 13, 2008 · 2 Comments

Modern platform beds are one of the many bedroom furniture pieces with many modern styles to choose from.

Modern Platform Bedroom Furniture

Modern living has been widely accepted the past couple of years. From modern homes down to modern furniture, we’re accepting the simplistic designs of modern furniture and moving away from the more traditional look.

Modern Platform Beds – Why We Like Them So Much

Through my experiences, I believe young adults prefer modern bedroom furniture because it’s different then their parents furniture. As kids most of us grew up in our parents’ house. Most parents had more traditional looking furniture in their homes and as kids that was the only thing we were used to for 18+ years. As we grow up and leave for college or have a place of our own, we want our place to represent us. We see in magazines modern bedroom furniture, modern living room furniture, etc that entices us to switch to a more modern living style.

Bedroom Furniture for a Cramped Space

November 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

A smaller than average bedroom calls for special bedroom furniture. Unfortunately, not every home comes with a sprawling and massive bedroom. Such smaller rooms require some creative planning and purchasing in order to maximize available space with the best and most useful furniture. The small-roomed shopper will ultimately have to be more selective with the bedroom furniture they desire, as lack of space will make it impossible to purchase a large and complete set. Luckily, there are certain items that are more helpful and space-saving than others, so you can essentially have all the benefits of a full set without buying every single piece.

The most important thing about bedroom furniture is its functionality. This becomes paramount with limited space, so look at items that have either multiple uses or one very important use. A dresser or chest of drawers is always a good starting place, as you can fold and tuck away a pile of clothing. You will also be able to use the top of the dresser or chest for storage of loose items such as an alarm clock or watch. An armoire is another great alternative. As far as bedroom furniture goes, there are few items more helpful than an armoire. Clothing, shoes, accessories, and even a television can all be placed within this self-enclosed piece.

You can’t consider bedroom furniture without the bed itself, so look to beds that provide several functions. A platform bed, for example, is far enough off of the ground that you can store things under it. Some beds feature frames that fan out slightly providing something of a nightstand. Sleigh beds and metal frame beds are also fairly moderate in terms of the amount of space they use. A smaller bed frees up valuable space for other kinds of bedroom furniture.

Why Dining Room Furniture is an Investment

November 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

dining room furniture and why its an investment

Dining room furniture is some of the most functional furniture you can purchase. There can be quite a bit of decision making that goes into a dining furniture purchase, as a large set can be pricey and includes many different pieces. For this reason, a dining set (or really any dining room furniture for that matter) must be viewed as an investment. Consider the amount of use the furniture you will receive, and the nature of that use. A dining table, for example, must bear the weight and strain of heavy and often hot plates and dishes. Guests will rest their elbows upon it, lean on it, and spill things on the tabletop. The chairs will be pushed in, pulled out, and will bear the weight of guests. When all of this is taken into consideration, the price for any dining room furniture becomes understandable.

As an investment, dining room furniture will take such punishment for much time to come. For this reason it is worthy of its price. Aside from its usable features, consider the beauty that exquisite dining room furniture provides. Well designed dining furniture is available in a range of styles that encompasses every aesthetic. From modern to traditional to antique, you will be able to find something in line with your current setup. It is also possible to create an entirely new design for your dining room using furniture. A slight touchup on the walls or a new lighting fixture will complement a table. You can even create a theme using these materials. They can all be of the same color or of the same style.

Coffee Table as an Entertainment Center

October 31, 2008 · Leave a Comment

A modern coffee table can double as an entertainment center for the budget-minded enthusiast. Improvised furniture solutions like this have long been a staple of the college student and twenty something, but with the harsh realities of the economic times setting in, many more people will begin to look for alternate ways to utilize their coffee table (among other furniture items). For the most part, it isn’t a good idea to rest a heavy television set on a coffee table, but consider the table a great place to showcase a computer. Wireless internet and laptops have made it possible to turn your coffee table into a home theater.

Consider first what you wish to do entertainment-wise. If you already own a laptop (or any kind of computer for that matter), you have many options available to you. Set the coffee table a few feet away from a couch, place the computer on top, and enjoy the sights and sounds. This works exceptionally well for music, as a graphic visualizer gives you something to look at while listening to your music. Movies work similarly, as you can watch a DVD on nearly any laptop. The proximity of the coffee table to the couch is an added benefit, as you will be able to see all of the details on the computer screen.

There are many other entertainment items that can be placed on a coffee table. A stereo or game system are both light enough to rest on the coffee table without risk of breaking it. Consider low-tech options as well, such as board games or cards. There is really no limit to the number of activities that can be

The Platform Bed

October 31, 2008 · 1 Comment

FeelMoreHuman - 300x300 Links to modern lighting p

As an urban trend towards minimalism in decorating takes hold, furniture follows suit. The platform bed, at least as far as bedroom décor is concerned, is a staple in this escalating rise in minimalist design.

The platform bed is exactly that: a simple platform upon which rests a mattress. It is low to the ground, and stripped of anything but its core, exemplifying all things minimalist.

The bed in any given bedroom set draws attention to itself. It becomes the furniture focal point of the room. Other pieces in the set, such as the dresser, chest, nightstand, and mirrors tend to center around this one piece. Because of the unique design of the platform bed, it is essential that the other pieces in the room follow in its suit. Obviously, if you are taking on a minimalist look in your bedroom, you will select pieces that share the minimalist elements: clean lines, solid colors, simplicity of design. You certainly would not place, for example, a bulky and heavily ornate pink armoire in a room with a platform bed. Rather, if looking to add a contemporary edge to your bedroom, you’d select simple pieces that match, remembering to do justice to the idea of open space, another element critical in minimalist decorating.

Another similar trend in decorating adopts Japanese inspired Zen themes. The furnishings are very aligned to minimalist décor, and the platform bed fits in well with this type of decorating. Again, it’s important to stress consistency in theme. In addition to maintaining consistency with furnishing, it’s also important to keep lighting and wall colors on cue with your decorating scheme. Simplicity in both colors and lighting work well with minimalist and Asian inspired themes.

If you are considering to buy a platform bed, be sure you’ll be comfortable being low to the ground. Bear in mind that platform beds, unlike more traditional bed frames, do not include box springs. If you decide to go this route, be sure to consider materials used in the construction of the frame. Because there is no box spring, you want to ensure that the frame is solidly constructed and able to support you comfortably as you sleep.

Given the trend towards the platform bed, you’ll find that there is a plethora to choose from if you decide on a minimalist look for your home. Some models offer storage space beneath the frame, and others feature simple headboards. The most common model is simply a slate and a mattress. Regardless of your personal preference, if you put just some time and effort into your research, you’ll find a platform bed that suits your personal needs and the aesthetics of your room.

Assembling a Platform Bed

October 30, 2008 · 1 Comment

FeelMoreHuman - Modern Cat's and Dog's

Putting together a platform bed is not the daunting task you may think it is. Platform beds are actually relatively straightforward in their construction. Most come with detailed instructions, but there are some general rules of thumb that apply to most if not all models and styles. Always follow the provided instructions as different manufacturers use different methods to produce and fasten the pieces for their respective platform bed. You can limit the amount of work and difficulty, though, by preparing beforehand with a few things in mind. By learning the basic assembly of a platform bed you will be more prepared when it comes time to piece together your own.

Before unwrapping your platform bed and beginning assembly, gather all of the tools you will need. Some beds come with a small set of tools, but having your own will make the job easier. The included tools usually have small or nonexistent grips, so wielding them can be difficult. A screwdriver and a rubber mallet are usually the main tools required for the job. The rubber mallet is especially useful as many pieces of a platform bed are connected with dowels. After these are inserted, a few taps from the mallet will be necessary to ensure a tight fit.

Once the platform bed has arrived, lay out all of the pieces flat on the floor. Try to organize them as best as you can into the general shape of the bed. Many beds advise you to begin with the headboard. This provides a foundation of sorts as the long sections of the middle of the frame can then be attached to the headboard. Many of the pieces will be attached with wood dowels, so be mindful of the way in which you use the mallet. Consider placing a piece of cloth or soft material on top of the wood before hitting it with the mallet.

Bedroom Furniture Tips

October 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So you’ve decided to get your very own bedroom furniture, decided to replace your old bedroom furniture, or your parents called and wanted their bedroom furniture back. Whatever the case might be, the dream of getting the chance to go shopping for bedroom furniture and quickly and drastically become a nightmare. Most of what I’m writing about is based on past experiences with not only myself, but with my colleagues a work, and friends/family. Great furniture doesn’t have to be expensive furniture. With a little creativity and imagination, I’ve seen people creating elegant bedrooms with their bedroom furniture and bedroom decorating on a budget goal.

The first thing you want to considered before ordering or shopping for bedroom furniture is the difficulty of assembling the furniture together. You might be a hands-on type of person where you like building things yourself if only there was a manual or someone there to show you how to assemble your bedroom furniture. Or are you the type where you would rather pay someone to build it for you, or have it pre-assembled prior.

I have a friend in the internet marketing business, although he’s a seo expert when it comes to furniture and he’s done his research on quality bedroom furniture sets. He told me that bedroom furniture is vital for your health because people don’t realize they spend half of their life on it. He stressed the importance of purchasing your bedroom furniture for those comfortable and restful nights.

Subtle Dining Room Furniture

October 8, 2008 · 1 Comment

High end dining room furniture is often thought of as formal and somewhat extravagant. This isn’t always true, and there are many options to choose from that will leave your dining room looking subtle while refined. Modern designs provide a contrast to the traditional and sometimes stuffy styles that have been dining furniture mainstays over the years. That is not to say that those furnishings do not have their merits, however. Many people do prefer older and time tested looks. Others still, desire furniture for their dining room that will provide a breath of fresh air and an escape from the common.

Dining room furniture is not limited to tables and chairs either. Servers, china cabinets, and sideboards are all useful and highly functional. These are practically necessary if entertaining guests is something you plan on doing. Even if you won’t be doing that, purchasing one of these would provide a great place to store all kinds of dishware and dining utensils. Having everything at hand limits the number of trips you will have to make to the kitchen and back. This allows more time to be spent at the table with family, friends, or guests. Furniture for the dining room is often stylish and highly usable.

Also consider purchasing furniture for your dining room in a set. This will ensure uniformity through all pieces and will make shipping somewhat easier. Many retailers also offer incentives for purchasing an entire set. A discounted price or the inclusion of additional items are a few examples of typical practices. Modern themed dining room furniture is generally cheaper anyway, as the pieces are simpler in appearance. The intricate carvings or details of more formal furniture are not likely to be found. Modern styles do come with the same features, though, such as extendable leaves.

You can also use the same concept and techniques when purchasing bedroom furniture, living room furniture, and other furniture pieces for your home.

Bedroom Furniture – Scratchless Moving Tips

September 30, 2008 · 1 Comment

Bedroom Furniture Moving

So you’ve decided to get new bedroom furniture to your home… There are many things to keep in mind when moving furniture not only into your room, but also taking out furniture from out of your room. There is a lot of preparation before actually moving the furniture in and out of your home. Here’s a few tips that will make your furniture move easier.

Spacers for Heavy Bedroom Furniture

Plastic furniture spacers are round plastic discs sold at many home goods store and varies in many shapes and sizes. These spacers reduces friction when you push heavy bedroom furniture across the floor without exerting much force. These spacers are mainly used for flooring with carpet. To use these spacers appropriately on your bedroom furniture, for instance, lift each corner one at time and place a slider under the legs smooth side down. If you have wooden floors check to see if you can use the spacers on them, if not, then use old pieces of carpet under each leg. A great spacer product on the market right now that offers spacers for BOTH carpet and hard wood floors is from a company called EZMoves.

Keep Moving Your Bedroom Furniture

If you’re short breathed and tired, it’s actually easier for you to keep pushing your furniture than to stop half way and rest. The logic in this is that once you have your bedroom furniture moving, there is actually less friction and therefore easier to move.

Make Your House Stylish and Durable!

Ibiza Occasional Living Room Furniture Collection

Here are some hints on how to create a beautiful, yet durable space that will last you a lifetime. Whether you have kids, pets, or just a busy household, your design should be appropriate to your lifestyle. Keep in mind that just because your living room furniture and flooring is long lasting doesn’t mean it has to look and feel industrial. The arrival of a new pet to your home requires a little adjustment when designing a space with a pet in mind, and you should consider durable flooring, fabric and color options. Just because you have an active lifestyle doesn’t mean you can’t have stylish carpet.

Today’s busy family needs flooring that will stand up to kids, pets, and constant traffic while still looking great. Now you can find carpets that have 4x the stain protection as most carpeting. When creating a durable space you should think about the right kind of fabric, paint, and finishes. Trend-setting fabrics like vinyl and ultra suede can mimic leather and suede and other natural materials which would otherwise never be a consideration when creating a kid and pet friendly environment.

Emboss patterns area also available in these fabric types. Pattern fabrics in darker shades make pet hair more visible and that’s why mid-tone fabrics are amongst the most pet friendly selections. Machine washable slip colors are another ideal solution for furnishings exposed to high wear and potential spills. When painting walls and cabinets, select wipe-able latex paint with a high sheen level in satin, pearl, or semi-gloss finishes. These are easier to clean and maintain than an egg-shell finish, but higher sheen levels will expose wall imperfections. So make sure you have a smooth and blemish free substrates prior to painting.

Executive Riverside Hutch

Simple design with ample breathing space and careful consideration given to organization is key in a well functioning family home. Providing a space for everything not only eliminates clutter but also potential hazards to your kids and pets. There’s no need to store away your valuable artwork and breakable accessories. They may still be incorporated into a family home provided that they are placed out of reach.

Ibiza Media Center

Maximize the vertical spaces in your home by installing floating shelves for artwork or family photos. Upper glass cabinets fitted with accent lighting can provide a space with a special area to hold breakable items. Wall mounted lighting can eliminate the potential hazard of exposed electrical cords. When designing a kid’s room, keep in mind of a bright environment, like a vibrant color area rug, and colorful trims on doors. Let your child play an active role in creating their own space.

Knights of the Dine Table!

June 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

What’s So Special about Dining Tables?

The dining table is still important to many households across the world. It is a table where family members take time out their busy schedule to preserve family values and relationships. During dinner we should forget about our daily problems and enjoy the company of our friend’s and loved ones. Dining room furniture should be soulful in the eyes of design and comfort. Not having the perfect dining table and dining chairs would give a negative effect on your decisions to eat as a family. Why would you eat at a dining table that looks unpleasurable and uncomfortable right? The modern and contemporary look might not be your style. There are many dining room furniture manufacturers out there that I can guarantee you’ll find the perfect dining set for your home. The main purpose of the dining room is being endangered and in order to bring it back from the grave, you need to bring life back into your dining room decor. Make it a fun place to be during dinner time, because it might be the only time in the day where you can talk to your family member and see what’s going on in their lives. Preventive control keeps families together and if all it took was to liven up your dining furniture, wouldn’t it be worth it?
