Modern Platform Beds
November 13, 2008 · 2 Comments
Modern platform beds are one of the many bedroom furniture pieces with many modern styles to choose from.
Modern Platform Bedroom Furniture

Modern living has been widely accepted the past couple of years. From modern homes down to modern furniture, we’re accepting the simplistic designs of modern furniture and moving away from the more traditional look.
Modern Platform Beds – Why We Like Them So Much
Through my experiences, I believe young adults prefer modern bedroom furniture because it’s different then their parents furniture. As kids most of us grew up in our parents’ house. Most parents had more traditional looking furniture in their homes and as kids that was the only thing we were used to for 18+ years. As we grow up and leave for college or have a place of our own, we want our place to represent us. We see in magazines modern bedroom furniture, modern living room furniture, etc that entices us to switch to a more modern living style.

The Platform Bed
October 31, 2008 · 1 Comment
As an urban trend towards minimalism in decorating takes hold, furniture follows suit. The platform bed, at least as far as bedroom décor is concerned, is a staple in this escalating rise in minimalist design.
The platform bed is exactly that: a simple platform upon which rests a mattress. It is low to the ground, and stripped of anything but its core, exemplifying all things minimalist.
The bed in any given bedroom set draws attention to itself. It becomes the furniture focal point of the room. Other pieces in the set, such as the dresser, chest, nightstand, and mirrors tend to center around this one piece. Because of the unique design of the platform bed, it is essential that the other pieces in the room follow in its suit. Obviously, if you are taking on a minimalist look in your bedroom, you will select pieces that share the minimalist elements: clean lines, solid colors, simplicity of design. You certainly would not place, for example, a bulky and heavily ornate pink armoire in a room with a platform bed. Rather, if looking to add a contemporary edge to your bedroom, you’d select simple pieces that match, remembering to do justice to the idea of open space, another element critical in minimalist decorating.
Another similar trend in decorating adopts Japanese inspired Zen themes. The furnishings are very aligned to minimalist décor, and the platform bed fits in well with this type of decorating. Again, it’s important to stress consistency in theme. In addition to maintaining consistency with furnishing, it’s also important to keep lighting and wall colors on cue with your decorating scheme. Simplicity in both colors and lighting work well with minimalist and Asian inspired themes.
If you are considering to buy a platform bed, be sure you’ll be comfortable being low to the ground. Bear in mind that platform beds, unlike more traditional bed frames, do not include box springs. If you decide to go this route, be sure to consider materials used in the construction of the frame. Because there is no box spring, you want to ensure that the frame is solidly constructed and able to support you comfortably as you sleep.
Given the trend towards the platform bed, you’ll find that there is a plethora to choose from if you decide on a minimalist look for your home. Some models offer storage space beneath the frame, and others feature simple headboards. The most common model is simply a slate and a mattress. Regardless of your personal preference, if you put just some time and effort into your research, you’ll find a platform bed that suits your personal needs and the aesthetics of your room.

Assembling a Platform Bed
October 30, 2008 · 1 Comment
Putting together a platform bed is not the daunting task you may think it is. Platform beds are actually relatively straightforward in their construction. Most come with detailed instructions, but there are some general rules of thumb that apply to most if not all models and styles. Always follow the provided instructions as different manufacturers use different methods to produce and fasten the pieces for their respective platform bed. You can limit the amount of work and difficulty, though, by preparing beforehand with a few things in mind. By learning the basic assembly of a platform bed you will be more prepared when it comes time to piece together your own.
Before unwrapping your platform bed and beginning assembly, gather all of the tools you will need. Some beds come with a small set of tools, but having your own will make the job easier. The included tools usually have small or nonexistent grips, so wielding them can be difficult. A screwdriver and a rubber mallet are usually the main tools required for the job. The rubber mallet is especially useful as many pieces of a platform bed are connected with dowels. After these are inserted, a few taps from the mallet will be necessary to ensure a tight fit.
Once the platform bed has arrived, lay out all of the pieces flat on the floor. Try to organize them as best as you can into the general shape of the bed. Many beds advise you to begin with the headboard. This provides a foundation of sorts as the long sections of the middle of the frame can then be attached to the headboard. Many of the pieces will be attached with wood dowels, so be mindful of the way in which you use the mallet. Consider placing a piece of cloth or soft material on top of the wood before hitting it with the mallet.

Platform Beds – Comfort and Contemporary
Looking For A Platform Bed?
Platform Beds are rising in popularity because of their ease and comfort-ability of use. The design of platform bed furniture originated from Europe and is becoming a standard for contemporary living. The look and appearance of these beds are more elegant due to the fact that they do not require bulky box spring mattresses; therefore, they give the consumer a low- profile and sleek appearance. An inner spring mattress is all you need because of the thicker construction made by the manufacturers.
PlatformBedsGalore.com offers a huge selection of elegant styles for both wood and metal platform beds, including king size and queen size platform beds at deep discount prices.
